Eya a singer, huh!!!

Eya, being a toddler likes to mimic what other people are doing. She is a fast learner.

In the car, she loves to sing along to the songs she hear on the radio. For the last few months until now, her favourite song will be Aizat's song, Hanya Kamu. She can sing the chorus on her own, especially the best part, "aku cinta, wooo, wooo".

So, last weekend, when we went back to Taiping, as we had nothing else to do, we asked her to sing in front of her opah tepen. She showed her skill from the first day we arrived. She went to her opah's bedroom and took her opah's tongkat. She used the tongkat as her microphone. We didn't showed her to use the tongkat as a mic. She also know how to improvise.

She sang the Aizat's song, burung kakaktua and lompat si katak lompat. The last 2 songs, I thought she learnt it from her nursery. I managed to capture her in action but going to upload it later.

She really sing like a pro. Everytime, she with her Opah, I will play the video again and again. How time flies? My baby girl has grow so much. Next week will be her birthday and we are thinking on what to get for her.

Eya Here and There...

Its almost 2 months since we moved to our rented house. We love it here. Every weekends, we will still 'balik kampung' to mom's house.

Every alternate week also, we will send Eya for her cuti sekolah (stay with opah for a week, away from nursery). We want Eya to have good sleep until noon, pampered by her opah and dede and free from my 'leteran'.

However, I noticed that every time we pick her up from her cuti-cuti at Opah', her attitude will change a little bit. This week, after we picked her up, it seems she a little bit garang.

Now, one of us have to sit with her every time she play in the living room. If not, she will scream and instruct us to 'duduk-duduk' (sit down), complete with angry expression and looking angry. But, she was really cute. Like what my mom said, 'macam guru besar sekolah'.

She also want to sleep in front of the tv every night. Only when she asleep, we would carry her to the bed. I assumed this she got by staying with her opah. My mom usually will fall asleep in front of the telly and later, abo will wake her up to go into the bedroom. So, I think this was where she learn to sleep in front of the telly. I am so annoyed with this attitude but knowing my mom, she will let her cucu does whatever she wants.

Eya also sometimes utter the word 'cebok' (sibuk/busybody) whenever someone scold her. She does this to everyone except me because she know that she couldn't mess with her mama.

And the cutest thing is she say the word 'no-no-no' complete with the hand gesture, escpecially when her acu disturb her or her ayah scold her. Yes, she was like a little makcik.

And up until now, she can count up to five, both in BM and English. Some words I taught her in English and some in BM, as when she with my mom, the medium will be totally in BM. At least, she knew both.

I also try to prevent her from watching 'tom-tom-bak'. For me, the programme is not useful. It teaches kids to be rude, and with all the talent show, some parents teach their kids some stupid things. How can a 5-year old dance provocatively with songs from PCD or even songs like 'makhluk tuhan paling seksi'? Don't teach your children that. Better teach them traditional dance like a school in Johor or if you have money, send your kids to ballet, or music lessons. Others programme in Astro Ceria is ok, I only have problem with tom-tom-bak and I hate the boy host in it.

She also loves cartoon. When she stays with my mom, all-day long, her dede will play movies like Finding Nemo, Happy Feet, Lion King, etc. She knows where to find the DVD and once she find it, she will ask her dede to play it for her. Nobody can stop her and for a week, her opah, acu and dede cannot watch other programs except for cartoons and Ceria. Pity them...

COIT Family Day '08

It was hard for us to organize our own Family Day. The same issues arised and just to prove that we can have great time without them, we still proceed with the plan.

The COIT Family Day was organized at Desa Waterpark. Hubby didn't join us as he works on Saturday, so it were only me and Eya. Some of my colleagues brought their children and Eya had fun playing with them.

I went there with Masyu and arrived there around 9 a.m. Kak Hani and family was the first family to arrive. With our committee effort, we managed to buy great presents, fab door gift from Masyu and the committee and nice bf and lunch provided by the park.

As Eya went in, she saw the water and straight wanted to have a dip in it. She really loves water. Some thing that she did not inherit from me and hubby.

The others went to play the telematch games, while me, Eya, Kak Sherry and her baby stayed to play and at the same time, to guard the others stuffs. Eya played around 2 hours, till 11 a.m. and I thought she was exhausted. I was wrong. After she got her drinks, she still wanted to go in the water. I had to stop her as I afraid that she might get a fever as the sun was really hot.

I changed her and fed her lunch. The others got their present and the event was finished after that. We went back to Masyu's house, got changed and later hubby picked us up.

I think we need to bring her to Desa Waterpark again.

What can Eya do now??

My lil angel is growing and its hard to track her new development. Before she was born, I bought a baby diary to monitor her progress but I only used the book until she was a few months old. With the existence of blog, it is easier for me to write about her development in this blog of mine.

For now, she is almost 2 years old. She has a few months left before she reach her '2' digit.

She is very talkative. She can mimic what other people say. So, now we have to be very careful on what we are saying. She can say her own name, as well as a few other words that my family usually use.

She also call her acu by adek (my youngest sister). Her acu is trying so hard to get her to pronounce acu. Sometimes she call her de-de(ayah-de) with his name, abo. She tend to call them by their name as other family members call adek and abo (their names).

I tried to wean her off her 'mak' ( this is what she called her 'pacifier). By now, she is okay without her mak but when she wants to sleep, she need to have it. Still have to work on that one.

We called her 'Duracell Bunny' as she never stop playing. I don't know where she got the extra energy to play non-stop. (Mom, stop worrying as why she couldn't be more tembam)

She loves shopping more than I do. And worse, she know where the cashier is. When we go to a shop, she will pick her own item (she just know that its meant for children), and carry the item to the cashier. She will do this every time we go to departmental store.

She called her shoes 'ko-ko. Why ko-ko? It meant for her crocs. She doesnt know how to pronounce crocs, and ko-ko just come out of her mouth. Now, for every shoes she has, she call them ko-ko. For other people shoes, she call 'ke-ke'.

Everytime someone open their laptop, she will ask for 'pooh-pooh'. That means she want that person to open the official disney winnie the pooh website.

Loves book so much. Any kind of book. She can pretend to read it for a long time. And, she also loves to write. Now, I have to find the replacement for her washable magic pen.

And last, she loves advertisement with kids in it. She will stop doing whatever her doing, when she hear kids voices in the advertisement.

A harness for her...

I once said to myself, if I have a baby, I would wear her with a harness everytime we go out. Before this, I never see any baby strap with a harness but now, I think it is normal to see baby in them.

Once Eya has mastered the art of walking, it is time to buy her a harness. I saw one in Mothercare and it cost RM49. As I like to have a few choices, I went to a few local baby stores and they didn't sell it. Maybe there are no demands for this kind of stuff.

Then, I ask hubby to bring me to Desapark City to find for a harness. Luckily the Chubby Chubby store stock a few harness. The Chicco was a bit short and kind of dragging the baby when she walk. The Gold Bug harness is the one with a animal bagpack but as Eya doesn't like anything on her back, I couldn't buy her that one. Lastly, the one that we chose are a brand from Taiwan, Farlin, which is quite ok for us. The wrist strap for the holder is quite long, so the baby can walk a little far without being dragged by the holder.

I know some parent hate to see baby in harness but looking at our condition today, its better safe than sorry. Even my MIL reminded us to get a harness for Eya once she can walk. Some said its look like you dragging your baby like dog but that not the case. Just imagine if your child is lost in a mall or stranger take your child, if she is strap, she will surely be with you.

I tested the strap on her last night and she felt okay with it.

I also fell in love with the new Croc sandal in the store but as Eya already got 1 Croc, I think the 2nd pair will be bought when she need a bigger size.

My New Addiction

Eya's has changed her diaper brand quite a few times. During my pregnancy, I bought a few brand just to try them out. Some of the brands that I bought and my reviews of them are:

  • Mamy Poko: too costly
  • Pampers: clump easily
  • Drypers: leaking
  • Huggies Dry Comfort: clump
  • Pureen: Best used for the 1st 6 months
  • Huggies: Brand that I used until now
As I surf the net everyday, I always searching for baby's product when one day, I found out about a website that sell cloth diaper.

What is cloth diaper?

It work just like disposable diaper but you don't dispose it. Instead, you wash it and use it again. The downside of using CD is the first investment is quite high. Average price for a CD is around RM60. Just imagine if you have to buy 3 or even 5 of it. The cost may seem quite high compared to buying disposable. But in the long run, it is cheaper and more economical to use CD. It is cheaper if you use it quite early compared to me who discovered it after Eya is almost 2 years old.

Unlike disposable, you have to wash it, which may seem a lot of work to some mommies. Using dispo, you only throw it.

I have quite a stash now. I got 11 CD, with various brands and inserts to go with the CD. I have one size diaper, L-sized for my pocket diaper, All-in-One or fitted diapers. Currently, I have Drybees, Wahmies, Kissaluv , Happy Heiny's and Bumwear. Mom prefer to use the pocket diaper on Eya compared to fitted diaper. Which one I like the most? It have to be the Drybees as it got various color and patterns to choose from.

As Eya is almost 2 yrs old, I may stop buying it as Eya going to be potty-trained soon. Unlike mommies who have babies, then, you may need to buy more than me. Actually, I do want to buy more but mom prevent me from buying it. She said the stash that I got now is more than enough.

For nursery, I still supply them with Huggies Dry as it will be a lot of work for them. My last purchase of Huggies is 3 months ago. Now, I've no longer have to wait for Huggies pomotion.

Eya @ 18 months

I didn't post any recent updates of Eya's development. So, here is a list of things what my lil' angel can do now.

  • Walked full-time now, she even forget how to 'ngesot'
  • Still have 11 teeth, no new teeth appear yet
  • So 'manja' with her ayah. Everytime she cries, she call for her ayah
  • Her ayah need to scratch her back everytime she wants to sleep. (Padan muka, tulah ajar princess awak tu lagi)
  • Can call 'de-de' (ayah-de) and be-be for her ateh
  • Really loves shopping (know how to choose her own stuff)
  • We notice that she is a bit 'penakut'. Have to sleep with lights on; if go back to Taiping, she has to sleep between me and hubby; afraid of big doll (Mr Sly) and even little Slimer
  • Very stubborn.
  • Finish taking all the immunisation dose. The next one will be during her Standard 6.
  • Loves eating 'telur dadar'
  • A little allergic to chicken

Girl's Day Out...

All the guys in the house, hubby, along and abo accompanied Cu to Selama to help my 3rd cousin (I think so) for his campaign.

So, only the girls was at home. After mom and I cast our votes in the morning, I decided to go to One Utama.

Once there, we had our breakfast at Sri Melaka as mom wanted to eat rice for brunch. All of us ordered 'nasi goreng'. After the brunch, we went for window shopping. What else can girls do??

It seemed that there were a few sales going on. I decided not to buy anything for Eya as I had bought her pants and shirt the day before. Nini and mom were the ones who bought the most item that day.

As for Eya, she got a pair of pink Crocs from her ateh. She was quite a good shopper. She sat on the bench, and the amoi handed her a few crocs with different colors. She would tried a pair and then open it, and tried another pair. At the end, she ended up with two colors, pink and light green. She made her choice and chose the pink one.

As we went quite early, Eya got the chance to try her new walking skills, assisted by her Ateh. She seemed so cute wearing her new pants and walked around OU.

We spent 5 hours in OU that day. Just window shopping and lepaking.

The funniest thing that happened that day was:

The three of us, bought the Big Apple Donuts. After we paid for the donuts, we went to the bench where mom and Eya sat. Eya pulled my hands and dragged me to the Big Apple shop. Once there, she pointed to the donuts display, acting like she wanted to choose her own donuts. After that, she dragged me to the donut display. Then, I knew that she copied what my mom did. Choosing her own donuts, then paid for the donuts. All of us had a big laugh.

Eya also missed her ayah so much during the weekend. Every time, our phone rings, she would asked if the person was her ayah. And, when she got to talk to her ayah, she sounded so sad. I never know that she could miss her ayah so bad.

My baby first steps...

I've been worrying and wondering when my lil angel will start walking. The paed told me that she has to walk before 20 months and as by now, she is already 17 months, I was so worried.

Then, suddenly, yesterday when I was taking a short nap at home, all my family members started screaming. I woke up from bed and saw she was walking. Not too many steps but she was really walking.

After that, she kept standing up and trying to walk. I was so happy that I really don't know how to describe in it words. I am so proud of her.

My daughter first steps was on Tuesday, around 7 p.m.. when she is 17 months and 1 week old.

The only problem is, she is so 'kelam-kabut'. It seemed that she is not trying to walk but running. Because of this, she kept falling but she is one tough cookie. She would stand up and try again.

For me, it is more like a milestones, achievement for me rather than her.

And for along, your record at 18 months cannot be broken. You are still the proud holder of that record. Let's see if Zara/Shahir can beat your record.

Eya @ Zoo Taiping

Hubby's hometown is famous for the Zoo Taiping, which offered the first Night Safari in Malaysia. We have been waiting to take Eya there as she really loves animals. We couldn't take her before as she was still young and it was not suitable for her.

We went there on Saturday but had to cancel the plan as it was really crowded. Even the parking was full. Instead, we took Eya for a stroll (in the car) around the lake. We planned to try the next day, as it was Sunday and a lot of people may have planned to go back to KL.

At first, we were afraid that Eya might spoil the plan as she is a late-riser. Luckily, that day she woke up quite early at 9 a.m. I quickly bathed her, give her breakfast and prepared her things.

The zoo was not that crowded and we decided to go in. I bought us the tickets, RM 5 each and for Eya it was free, as she is below 3 years old. It was quite hot that day and the best way to venture the zoo was by the mini-train.

We had to pay another RM3 for the train ride but it was quite okay as we did see all the animals. Eya was not that keen at first as she didn't really recognized the animals. She was quite excited when she saw small ponds and plants. Yes, my daughter is a flora lover.

Then, she saw animals that she knew and she became really excited. Some of the animals she noticed was birds, bears, tigers (they are fatter now!), lions and 'kucing batu'. She really loved seeing the bears and birds.

After the train stopped, we didnt stroll on our own as it was noon and it was really hot. But, we were glad that we brought her to see all the animals. She is truly an animal lover just like her ayah.

Please stand up...

Yay...eya has managed to stand on her own, unaided. Before this, she can only stand against wall or chair, etc, in other word she need to be supported.

It happened exactly 2 nights ago, 28/01/08 around 10 p.m. while me and hubby were watching House. I didn't noticed it at first although hubby had witnessed she standing up. After a few minutes, after hearing hubby cheering her, I noticed she was standing on her own.

Are we happy? Yes, we totally are. She successfully standing unaided at 16 months, although other babies at her age now is starting to run. After that incident, she is trying to stand every night especially when we are watching tv.

Yesterday, she managed to stand for a few minutes. I think eya is quite a stubborn baby. She will only do something at her own will and pace. Her steps of development is quite chaotic. Example:

  • She crawled after she had mastered 'ngesot' stage.
  • She had her molar teeth first before the canine teeth. Now, she has a total of 11 teeth. (8 incisors+3 molars)

New trimming, new attitude...

Eya's hair was quite long. Mom had to tie her hair up into ponytails or any style to ensure her hair was not that messy. Eya hair is quite thin just like her acu's hair.

So, last Friday, I asked mom to cut her hair. I held her while mom started trimming her hair. We only managed to cut her fringe and a little bit at the back. It was not that easy to hold a toddler when you are cutting her hair.

She looked quite different with her new haircut. According to elder people, when a child hair is cut, she become naughtier. Eya proved this myth was right when we brought her to OU on Saturday.

She screamed and pointed to all the bears, toys she looked. It seemed like she never go out to shopping malls and some people even looked at me. Maybe to see to whom the screaming child belongs to. We also took her to see the fishes in the pond at the GF but she screamed when she saw the fishes. Once we took her inside, then only she calmed down.

She also was afraid of the Simpson's family statue in the Movie shop in the GF. This one she gets it from me, as I'm afraid of anything that look like mascot or clown.

Chef Aleya...

Eya like to pretend she was cooking and she would feed her ayah-de and opah with all her cookings. She would use the little containers or plastics that she found and use it for her cookings.

She was so good playing as a chef so I decided to buy her a cooking utensil. At first, I found the cooking set but it was only suitable for 3 years and above. So, maybe I had to wait a little longer before I could buy her the cooking set.

Then, when we were strolling at The Curve, I went to look around in the ELC. I knew ELC back in UK, when Nor had its catalogue at her home. Back then, I would browsed through the catalogue and hoping that I would have my own children so I can buy the stuff in there for them. ELC have a range of Lets Pretend, where they have all the adult stuff like cleaning accessories, kitchen set and even tools kit. I once bought hubby's niece a Tefal Kitchen which here, would cost a lot. I also bought her a washing machine and a microwave.

So, I found this nice kitchen accessories but the price was a bit costly. Then, mom and nana wanted to share in buying the toys for her. The toys is not suitable for her age but when I checked, there was none small items that she could swallow. So, it was safe for her.

I bought the set for her and it was not a hasty purchase as she knew how to play with it. Everyday, she would take all the utensil from the box and play with it. She cook something and then, feed all of us with her own cooking.

For my girls, it would be kitchen utensil. For my boys, it will be tool kit (hubby loves the black & decker tool kit). Absolutely, no Barbie for my girls.

I don't want to go to school...

I started sending eya to nursery when she was 7 months old. Until now, she still goes to the nursery but only three times a week. My mom wanted the extra 4 days in the week for Eya to stay with her.

At first, everytime I handed her to the babysitter, she would cried but now, she is okay. I just hand her to the babysitter, and sometimes she even wave bye-bye to me. She is a playful baby so when she sees all the boys in the nursery, she feels it okay to be there in the nursery.

Last week, like always, I carried her to the car and when I closed the door, she started crying. Real crying. I consoled her and after a few minutes, she slept.

A few days after that, she was awake when I carried her. When my mom asked whether she wanted to go to school or not, she shaked her head and asked my mom to take her. I really need to be strict with her so I just carried her and off went to work.

I don't know why suddenly she didn't want to go to school. Ayah-de said maybe her friends who have already walk tease her and caused her didnt want to go to school. I don't know but for me, she still have to go to nursery.

At such a young age, she want to skip school, which means I have to be strict. Or else, I'm gonna face the same attitude when she start real school.

Eya and Pooh...

All of my friends knew that I really love Pooh and of course, Arale. I had everything with Pooh on it, stationary, bedcover, clothes, anything will have Pooh on it.

When I have Eya, I sort of passed my love for Pooh to her. I bought her a lot of clothes with Pooh on it. If you check her wardrobe, I would say 50% of her daily wear is from Disney. Her Cik Yong also pamper her with Pooh item. She bought Eya a set of Pooh's pillow and also a few Pooh clothes.

As Eya had see Pooh from the moment she was borned, she now recognize Pooh. She can even say 'Pooh' or "Pooh-pooh'. Everytime she see Pooh in mall or even on TV, she would say Pooh. She would point her finger to every Pooh that she sees. Once, when we were in a queue, waiting to pay our stuff, she had a conversation with a big Pooh picture on the Jusco wall.

Her Pooh plushie is among the toys that she loved. She also recognize Tigger which she call 'mau-mau'. She loves playing with Pooh, Tigger and of course, Mr P (Nini's Penguin plushie).

Eya @ 15 months

What can my little angel do at 15 months?

She still not walking but she has made a lot of efforts. She can now stand and I do believe, in a few months time, she can start walking.

She ngesot first before crawling. I think her principle is to try everything, just do it, no need to follow the correct order.

She didnt like to eat, very picky. Loves banana and mihun.

Likes to play 'masak-masak' with her ayah de.

Anger...is it good for me and her??

I know that I was quite a 'garang' person. When Nini was small, I always scolded her and at one point, I thought I was overdoing it. But at the end, she turned out great.

When I have a daughter, I think I would become a nice, mild-tempered mother. I wished to be like my dad, who was calm and sometimes, like a friend to me. Except, when it came to school matter and exam.

When Eya was still a baby, I was quite gentle with her. Now, when she has her own mind, will and demands, she is quite naughty. Hubby is the calmer one so I decided to become the 'garang' one. Yes, eya really need to know her boundary. She is only scared of me. If her ayah or opah scold her, she will pretend like nothing happen and will do it over and over again. Its only when I raise my voice, she will stop and sometimes she cry.

Sometimes, I do feel guilty scolding her. My mom always said to me that she is still a baby, you don't need to scold her. But for me, Eya need some discipline and she must learn it by now, or else she will not know how to listen.

I do think that she knows by now, that sometimes some of the thing she did is wrong. If I didn't impose anything or scold her before, she will think she can do everything and still be okay.

I really hope that I'm doing the right thing?????????????

Weird Steps of Development

As most people would know by now, Eya still does not start walking. Her development is quite 'caca merba'. She totally has her own will and demands. She started 'ngesot' for a few months and later progressed to sit unaided. A few days back, she surprised us by crawling. However, she will only crawl if she is in the lying position, else, she will only ngesot.

I think she wanted to try all the steps although some people said a baby may straight goes to walking without any pre-steps like crawling, sit, etc. She definitely has her own way of thinking.

She also has tried to stand up on her own by holding to things nearby to her. Although, she seems to be quite a late bloomer in the walking department, I'm still happy because she is quite a talker. She can take all the time in the world to start walking.

Still cranky...

Eya couldn't sleep last night. I can hear her voice but because I'm too tired, I only managed to get out from my room around 5 a.m. I made her milk and put her to sleep. Then, I continue my precious sleep.

When I woke up again, she had already woken up. At the moment she saw me, who was in the way to get my towel, she started screaming. She wanted me to hold her. As I woke up quite late, I was really rushing to prepare for work. I tried passing her to hubby but she didn't want her ayah.

At the end, hubby got to take a bath first and I had to think of a way to give her to my mom. My mom tried to console and persuade her but she still wanted me.

When my mom put her specs on, she then willing to be taken by my mom. I think she thought her opah going to take her for a walk. BTW, she is not that well today. She has blocked nose and a mild fever.

Cranky Ms Eya

Yesterday was Eya's nursery open house. I ordered some sardines rolls for the potluck.

Me and hubby went to the open house somewhere at 10.30 a.m. There were a few parents who were already there. The menu was great although it was a small event. I loved the 'mee goreng'. There were also nasi impit, rendang ayam, lodeh and even sambal goreng jawa.

The bigger children waited for their parents at the stairs wearing their baju raya. Hubby kept asking where was her daughter. I told him maybe only the children who can walk were allowed to be with their parents or maybe Eya was sleeping. We imagined it will be great if Eya could walk and come to meet us. But knowing Eya, I wouldn't risk it to meet her as she will be attached to me and would start screaming if I left her.

We left the event around 11 a.m. as hubby had a site meeting.

Later that night, Eya slept as usual but she was extremely hungry. My mom fed her rice with cooked vege and she loved it. Then, she drank her milk twice. My mom said it is best to start feeding babies early with green vege. Thats why all my siblings really loves vege. And, she tried to teach Eya too.

She seemed couldn't sleep that night. She kept tossing the whole night. At first, we thought it was because of the mosquitoes bite but even after we applied some Yu Yee oil, she still was not calm. I felt her tummy and I thought she was 'kembong perut'. When Eya was little, she rarely got 'kembong perot'. One is because she was bf, 2nd, we applied her Yu Yee oil and 3rd because, we gave her gripe water. We applied some oil and gave her gripe water to drink. She still feeling cranky but better than before. I brought her to my room and try to put her to sleep. When she saw her ayah, her mood lift up and started to talk with him. I knew she was sleepy but knowing her, she will try to play until she asleep.

It took me until 1 a.m. to put her to sleep and I missed my sahur because of too tired.

Why tired? Exams. I really hated invigilating exams. Sitting and walking around for 3 hours, doing nothing and at the end to collect exam papers from student. Yesterday, I almost fell asleep in the exam hall. Yes, it was a 3 hours paper. Today, I'm really hoping it could be a 2 hours or at most 2 1/2 hours paper. Please, I am so bored in the hall. This is my final days of invigilating exam after 3 days straight.
